Barbara Benson
(University of Washington)
Jeff Benson (NARA - Seattle)

Our featured speakers for this event are Barbara and Jeff Benson.
Barbara is the Director of Records Management Services at the University of Washington. Jeff is a Senior Records Analyst at the National Archives and Records Administration. With Records Management experience that extends over the last 30 years, they bring an interesting perspective to this month's topic.

A Fresh Look at Email Management: Two New Approaches

It has been approximately 20 years since email became part of our work lives. And 20 years later, we are still trying to find an effective yet easy way to manage it. As we "celebrate" the anniversary of this ubiquitous communication and record-creating technology, now is a good time to ask two records management veterans of the email battle to discuss some of the latest approaches.

The Benson team will discuss two new techniques (that are not software-dependent) for managing email: Jeff will talk about the "Capstone" approach that is being implemented in some Federal agencies. Barbara will describe an initiative at the University of Washington that focuses on educating and empowering users to take steps toward controlling the chaos that is a typical email account.

They will also leave time for sharing your own ideas and techniques as we brainstorm new approaches for managing this "old" technology.
Please join us!

Check-in starts at 11:15 am. The program is from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.

Lunch will not be provided, but feel free to bring your own!

The cost is $5 for the presentation.
